Nothing special, just a picture of my little set up to sketch some boots for a painting.

This painting was basically a test for possible future paintings. It didn’t turn out quite how I wanted so there will be many more test to come in the future. It may take some time but I am determined to get exactly what I want, ok maybe not exactly what I want, but close will be good enough. Here’s some pictures to show the process and the texture that is hard to see in a straight ahead photo.

layer of dryed tinted gel medium on top

Sanded down

Poured some gooey goop stuff on top

All dried up

I’ve always made my own panels and enjoyed doing so but haven’t had the time or space as of late to do so. A few years back while looking for something I ran into a site where someone was building and selling panels, I took note and wrote down the address in case I ever needed to look into ordering some. That time cam a few months back and I made an order and I enjoyed painting them up but it was time again to make another order. So a week or two ago I sent an email and with a usual quick response my order was placed. Just the other day the good man Chris from the site Paint On This delivered my order and once again I am pleased. Thank you Chris, much appreciated. So visit Chris at http://paintonthis.com/

I just did this 12″x12″ for an auction benefitting the Chuck Jones Center For Creativity. Honestly I don’t even know what they do but I sure do enjoy Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

So I just finished this 36″ x 36 “ the other day and it took a bit longer than usual because I didn’t sit and finish it straight through as I usually do. This time I just drew it on the panel and did the black and the anime face, the next day painted in the red, next day blue, then the face and finally the arms and black clothing. I kind of enjoyed working that way because it freed me up to do all the things I need to get done as well as painting. Also by doing this I found a great way to strike a balance in my creative life and the stay at home father lifestyle. I don’t have to finish a painting the same day I start it. I know that sounds like a stupid realization but I’ve always jusy blazed through piece after piece, now it’s just time to set a pace.

I’m going to do a painting or series of paintings with Manga style girls within it and I’ve noticed I used to be good at drawing such things but I haven’t done it for so long. Drawing and painting stuff you haven’t done in quite a bit o’ time IS NOT like riding a bike. I thought oh I’ll just make a quick sketch and I’ll be ready, oh how so wrong I was. I had to paint over the drawing and quickly got out some paper to do some sketches. Here’s some of the sketches and believe me there will have to be a whole lot more till I get comfortable in what I want to do.
Due to an unexpected event I won’t be able to make it out to the Sundance scene this year which is always a good time and the Silver Queen folks are always great to see but this year I’ll be staying put in San Diego. I will miss it. So I got quite a few emails about what I’m showing in the Pinups and Pussycats show at Silver Queen so I’ll post some images some of which have been posted before. I did 10 collaborative pieces with Frank Gonzales and 11 solo pieces. I don’t have pictures of the collaborative pieces so I’ll just be showing my solo pieces for now, so click the thumbnails and enjoy, I’m going to take a shower.
This years as it has been in years past if you happen to be in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival make sure to stop in at the Silver Queen Fine Art Gallery. Here’s the flyers Front and Back for all your info.
